One content creator’s attempt at a major stunt ended in tragedy.
An unnamed 26-year-old from England was attempting to climb the Castilla-La Mancha bridge—one of Spain’s highest bridges in the city of Talavera de la Reina—while filming only to fall to his death.
Councilor for Citizen Security Macarena Muñoz confirmed the man’s death in an Oct. 13 statement issued by the Mayor’s Office, stressing that climbing the 630-foot bridge is “totally prohibited.”
She continued, “We have reiterated on many occasions that it cannot be done under any circumstances."
The content creator was joined by another 24-year-old English man at the time of his death.
“We have been able to learn they had come to Talavera to go up to the bridge and create content for social networks,” Muñoz said, “which has resulted in this disastrous and sad outcome.”
The mayor’s office shared that the man’s body has been transferred to a funeral home in the wake of his death.
A spokesperson for the U.K. Foreign Office said in a statement to People, “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Spain, and are in contact with the local authorities.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the National Police in Toledo further shared details about the incident in question, telling Metro.co.uk, "He was about 40 to 50 meters [130 to 165 feet] up, around a quarter of the total height of the bridge, when he fell."
Police added, "The reason he fell is not clear and will be investigated by a local court.”
The Castilla-La Mancha Bridge opened in 2011 and is a cable-stay bridge that has long drawn climbers and content creators despite the ban on scaling the structure.
